THE SUMMER CLOSER (ICED COFFEE)

Body: 4 · Acidity: 7 · Strength: 5 · Clarity: 6 · Caffeine: 6

Iced Coffee is not Cold Brew. This distinction matters more than most people realise.

Cold Brew is brewed cold, over 12–24 hours. Iced Coffee is brewed hot, at normal extraction temperature, then poured directly over ice. The rapid chilling locks in the hot-extraction flavour profile — including the acids that cold extraction would have left behind.

The result: Acidity 7. Brighter. Sharper. More caffeinated per sip than cold brew, but with less total caffeine due to the shorter extraction. More refreshing. Less of a weapon.

The summer closer.

There are contexts where the heavy artillery is not the right call. A 35-degree afternoon in Dubai, a rooftop meeting in Barcelona, a client lunch in the middle of August. You still need to perform. You still need clarity and focus. But you do not need a syrupy dark espresso sitting heavy in a room that is already hot.

Iced Coffee is the answer for those moments. It is lighter than cold brew, brighter than either, and genuinely refreshing in a way that hot coffee in warm weather is not.

The right blend for iced.

The higher acidity of iced extraction means dark roasts — The Accelerator and The Deal Closer — are not ideal here. Their zero-acidity profiles were engineered for espresso. Iced extraction would reintroduce acidity that the roasting process deliberately eliminated.

The Strategy Blend, however, was built for this. The Medium roast preserves some natural acidity from the Ethiopia accent. On ice, that translates to a light, clean, slightly fruit-forward coffee that works in warm weather without sacrificing quality.

The Japanese iced method: the upgrade.

The Japanese method of making iced coffee is worth knowing. Brew directly onto ice using a V60 or AeroPress — the hot extraction hits the ice and chills instantly, preserving volatile aromatics that would otherwise evaporate. The result is brighter, more complex, and more aromatic than simply pouring hot coffee over ice and waiting.

Use 40% of the total water weight as ice in the V60 server. Brew the remaining 60% as hot water. The final cup has full aromatic complexity and is already chilled when it arrives.

This is the method that belongs in the Jetsetter Protocol instruction card for summer use.

Where iced coffee fits in the Closer Coffee ecosystem.

It is not a core product. It is a seasonal application of existing blends with a different technique. The Strategy Blend in summer, served over ice, Japanese method — this is a legitimate product recommendation without requiring a new SKU. One blade, different angles.

Brewed hot. Served cold. Sharper than cold brew, lighter than espresso. The seasonal tool for executing in warm weather.
